MISSION STATEMENT
Ensemble Parallèle (EP) is committed to promoting
contemporary music and multidisciplinary art. Through creative programming
of concerts, Ensemble Parallèle will encourage collaborations
between music and other art forms. Using contemporary chamber opera
as a main artistic vehicle, the Ensemble intends to bring this genre
to the most diverse possible audience.
ENSEMBLE PARALLÈLE MISSION
The mission is to:
1. Be a leading ensemble of new music that fosters
multidisciplinary creativity.
2. Be actively involved in the cultural life of San Francisco and beyond,
reaching
out to a diverse audience.
3. Encourage local emerging talent, and foster collaboration between
local artists
in Ensemble Parallèle’s interdisciplinary projects.
4. Promote contemporary chamber opera and masterpieces of the 20th century
which are rarely performed.
5. Commission new works from all areas of the world.
6. Maintain an organization with the highest performance standards.
ENSEMBLE PARALLÈLE STRATEGY
1. Be an Artistic Collaborator:
Ensemble Parallèle will collaborate with other art organizations
in the San
Francisco Bay Area for its multidisciplinary projects.
Activities for the Ensemble will vary in a given year, depending on
the scope of
the various projects undertaken. These will include: performances of
commissioned works in BluePrint concerts (see EP Works tab); collaborations
with other art organizations (i.e. San Francisco Silent Film Festival,
museums,
dance companies); participation in other new music festivals in California
and
abroad; recording projects; and chamber opera productions.
These events and recordings will provide national and international
visibility.
2. Remain a Resident Ensemble:
Ensemble Parallèle is in residence at the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music
(SFCM). Musicians in EP will consist mostly of Conservatory alumni and
members of the faculty. Collaborators from other disciplines will come
from the
local, national and international scenes.
This will provide EP with a home in a respected education institution
of music,
in a culturally rich and diverse community.
3. Be a Bridge Builder:
Repertoire selection will be at the heart of the Ensemble’s
identity. EP will
bridge the gap in music between important composers of the 20th century,
and
current trends in contemporary music.
This will provide audiences with historical insight that helps them
appreciate the
musical language of today.
4. Be a Worthy Beneficiary:
Ensemble Parallèle is committed to maintaining an organization
with the
highest performance and ethical standards: from the Board of Directors
to the
student interns.
The Ensemble will be funded by foundations, corporations, and government.
Also by private donors, board contributions and fund-raising events.
With a board that has a 100% financial commitment by its members,
it will open doors to grants that EP did not qualify for in the past.
